How we check our information
Error codes are easy to copy and easy to get wrong. Here is what every page goes through before we publish it.
Find the maker’s source
We start from the brand’s own support pages or owner’s manual, never from another code site.
Rewrite in plain English
We explain what the code means and keep the maker’s steps, in the order that makes sense.
Rate every step
Each step gets a safety level, and anything beyond a quick check comes with a clear stopping point.
Cite and date it
Every page links to its sources and shows the date we last checked them.
What counts as a source
We use the manufacturer’s own support pages, owner’s manuals and technical sheets, plus government and safety bodies such as the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission for safety topics. We don’t use other code-list websites as sources.
How we write steps
We keep the maker’s instructions and rewrite them in plain English. Where several brands give the same advice, we combine it and say whose figures we’re quoting, for example when brands give different drain hose heights. We don’t add steps that involve opening the cabinet, working on wiring or replacing internal parts.
Safety ratings
Checks anyone can do
Settings, loading, detergent, hoses you can see. No tools, nothing electrical, nothing to take apart.
Fine with some care
Unplugging, turning off water, cleaning a filter that releases water, moving the appliance. We tell you exactly what to prepare.
Time for a technician
Anything inside the cabinet, any wiring, motors, pumps and control boards. We’ll help you describe the problem so the visit goes faster.
What we don’t publish yet
If we can’t find an official source, we don’t publish the code. GE, for example, publishes an official list of dishwasher codes but not one for its washers, so our GE washer section stays empty until we’ve checked codes against GE owner’s manuals, model by model. A blank is better than a guess.
Dates and corrections
Every page shows the date we last checked it against its sources. Manufacturers update their pages, and codes can differ between model years, so your owner’s manual always has the final word. If you find something wrong, tell us and we’ll check it against the source and correct it.
