GE dishwasher code C6: incoming water too cool

You can usually fix this

What it means

The water arriving at the dishwasher isn’t hot enough.

What to try

Unplug the dishwasher before any step beyond a quick look, and turn the water off before touching hoses.

  1. Make sure your hot water reaches at least 120°F.
  2. Run the hot tap at the kitchen sink until it’s hot before you start the dishwasher.
  3. Adjust the water heater setting if needed.
  4. Avoid using lots of hot water elsewhere in the house during a cycle.
  5. Choose options that lengthen the cycle so the dishwasher has time to heat.

Resetting a GE dishwasher

GE says switching the power off for a minute or two can clear a fault. For several codes it suggests turning the breaker off for about 30 seconds, then pressing Reset. If that doesn’t work, the dishwasher may need service.
