GE dishwasher code C8: detergent cup blocked or open

What it means

C8: something stopped the detergent cup opening fully. Cup Open: the cup wasn’t closed before the cycle.

What to try

Unplug the dishwasher before any step beyond a quick look, and turn the water off before touching hoses.

1. C8: move whatever is blocking the cup, close and latch the door, and wait 30 seconds.
2. Cup Open: add detergent and latch the cup. Or press Start again without opening the door to run anyway.

Resetting a GE dishwasher

GE says switching the power off for a minute or two can clear a fault. For several codes it suggests turning the breaker off for about 30 seconds, then pressing Reset. If that doesn’t work, the dishwasher may need service.
